Alternative for Shopsmith Fence
Okay - this is Mr. Cheap. Woodworking show coming up here in Columbus in March (they used to have LOTS of displays, dealers, items but every year they are a little smaller). Will pick up my bandsaw blade table insert there..... AND.... I was wondering, can something like the Kreg Fence (or any of the other brands that sometimes have super sale prices on them at shows) work in the Shopsmith slot?
It may be time to buy myself a birthday present......
Thanks....

Incra makes a Shopsmith edition miter bar that reportedly fits great. I don't know of any other manufacturer offering a bar that will fit the Shopsmith miter slots without modification.
Gale's Law: The bigger the woodworking project, the less the mistakes show in any photo taken far enough away to show the entire project!
I do have one and I love it. By the way, so does Norm Abram.

So does this fence work on 520 setup?

It looks pretty cool in the one pic, but I wish there were some "in use" pics. I will go back and look harder though

The only SS feature is the miter bar width! It should work on any Mark 5/V/VII/7/2

Yes it works on the 520. That is the version for which it was designed. I use it on my 500 (don't have a 520) but with the outrigger resting on the extension table, and with the front table extension, it works like a charm. I use my sled less because this is so easy to set-up and extremely accurate. I heartily endorse it even though I have no connection with them (wish I did).

Just about any miter gauge can be adapted for the SS.
You just have to either replace the bar with one from SS or have the bar milled to fit the SS slot.
Osborne and Incra are nice (market aware?) enough to do it for us as long as we're willing to pay of course.
If the head can be removed from the bar, it can be adapted. But by the time you've paid for a different miter gauge, and then a replacement bar and then done the work to adapt it, you might as well spend the money on a SS Miter Gauge. JMHO
