Re: gluing wet curved insert into turning blank

I can't remember the exact order, but you can drill the blank before slicing, and drill the contrasting piece through the blank when it is clamped up for bending/drying. With the dowels, you keep the grain on the blank aligned and keep everything from slipping when the glue is applied. Glue on the c...

Re: gluing wet curved insert into turning blank

We used 1/8" thick material for the "wave", and it only takes about a minute in the microwave. Just make sure it is hot enough to bend without breaking. The dowels help to keep things aligned for gluing. They are in the interior of the bowl and will be turned away.

Re: gluing wet curved insert into turning blank

I took a class from John Beaver, and we wrapped the thin piece of wood in soaking wet, not damp, paper towels and heated them in a microwave oven. When the piece was soft, we then clamped it between the cut pieces until dry. We glued and reclamped later. Mike http://johnbeaver.net/wood-turning.html

Re: Planer Blades

The planer parts diagram also shows the blade part number as 513364, so the other number, 505982, is for a set of three.

Re: Rpm info

The programmed speeds in the PowerPro match the new chart, and are close to the old chart for most things but differ in others, particularly the belt sander.

Here is a previous thread about this:

Re: Alternative to the Nova chuck?

I have several Oneway Talon chucks, which I really like. Shopsmith used to sell the Talon until they partnered with Nova on the PowerPro. If you have larger projects in mind, Oneway makes the Stronghold chuck. Both have Shopsmith adapters available.

Re: Need help with Planer Feed Motor and/or Controller

There is a sale ending today on the 240V planer feed motor. I don't have any idea if it can be converted to 120V or not.

Re: Splayed miter picture frame

There is a compound angle table in PTWFE (page 37 in the 4th edition) that matches Mathias' table, except the PTWFE angles are rounded to the nearest 1/4 degree. The link to the table in the online version of PTWFE seems to be broken.

To get started, go to the My Google Drive link in this page and look for the 1956 Woodworking Course that Everett Davis has restored:
