Need your opinions

Post by Beave2012 »

So after being that great deal with the 510 in terrific shape, I run into a problem... Not enough room for it, my eyes are to big for my shop. So I'm debating...

I need to make room in the shop so here are my options...

Sell the new 510 :(

Sell the powered stand and small dress or I use for sanding supplies and saw blade... and move my bandsaw to the 510.

Convert it to a shorty and get rid of the powered stand...

Replace my 500 still press with this 510 and sell the 500.

Make the workshop unworkable without having to rearrange the shop every time I need to do something...

The wife wants me to get rid of it... But it's too nice to lose...

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them. :)

Space. It's a small area in the garage and getting too cluttered with the extra shopsmith so the wife had expressed that there is to much in that area and something needs to happen. Reluctantly I agree, just not sure what to change. Btw power is no issue, I've weird that small area up quite a bit, including 2x 220v circuits if I do desire (or get a power pro)...

My main conflict is, is the power stand worth getting rid of for a shorty or something similar.

Power stand or Power station.

Regardless a shorty is preferable.

Besides a power stand takes up very little room disassembled. ;)

1 1/2" EMT - maybe if short enough(about the right OD).
Plug ends to prevent crushing.

Tell your wife that we are sorry but she didn't make the cut... :D :D :D :D :D
OK, maybe the shorty is a safer option. ;)

Have you considered a wall-mounted SS dedicated drill press? That will let me fit/keep one more SS, and I still have room to put a rolling 5-drawer toolbox underneath it. Not to mention saving time on changeovers.

I like JPG's idea about taking apart the stand to save room. Things change, someday .... :D

Also, I agree a shorty is a much better unit.

The old adage "less is more" is very true. I'm cutting back hard myself. Painful....overcrowding/clutter is a big problem, for me.
