Making progress. The upper has first coat dry and the lower is almost done. Hopefully finish it up tomorrow or Wed depending on when the 1/4” ply for the back panel arrives.

Re: A Bookshelf
The project is moving along. The base unit is done and first coat of finish on. The doors are surface sanded and ready for final cut to size and then shape the edges. This was the first time I have used the drum sander with the PP headstock and the difference was it took less than half the time due to the bigger bite that the sander was able to take with each pass.

Re: A Bookshelf
Incredible work, as always! One question, in the photo of the base unit interior, there is a board running the width of the base, just above the bottom, and then the end pieces and door divider are notched to fit over it. What is the reason for this construction detail?
Gale's Law: The bigger the woodworking project, the less the mistakes show in any photo taken far enough away to show the entire project!

Re: A Bookshelf
The only piece that is notched is the center partition. The end panels are not. The ledger is mortised to the end panels with biscuits. Notching the partition allows me to put 2 screws through the ledger into the partition to give it more strength. I tend to design my cabinet work with no visible fasteners inside or out. Just a cleaner look.

Finished the doors today so now it’s just get a few more coats of finish on and it will be time to install.
