Miter Gage Slippage

Post by ssman »

I was wondering if the shopsmith miter gage can be altered in some way to create 'less slippage' on the vertical post when cutting boards on the table saw?

Miter slippage

SSMAN,

You might try using some pattern attaching glue to the back of a piece of 120 grit sandpaper and putting it on the verticle face of the miter. This would prevent slippage. If you don't want to do it directly, cut a piece of wood to size and drill it to be attached to the miter face and attach a piece of sandpaper to the board and attach it to the miter.

Hope this helps you.

miter guage post slippage

I am understanding your question as the post on the work hold down part of the pistol grip. Slippage is an age old problem with this design. If you do not get it adjusted to the right height for the wood you are cutting, when you squeeze the pistol grip it will slip. There are some ways to help this, but not eliminate it. You can roughen up the post with some course sand paper. This will help the clamp grip better, and you can tighten the thumb screw more. (this may cause stripping over time) The best cure is dont count on it holding the wood tight with the pistol grip. Use a miter guage extension with grip tape on your miter guage face, and hold the wood up with the other hand while cutting.
