This one is taking quite a while (work gets in the way), but progress is happening.
I've been pausing a lot to make sure I use appropriate fastening methods to allow for solid wood movement.
I think I'm about 40% done with my Recycling Pine project:

Hey there, Chris! That's a very fine looking desk!:D I really like the tapered legs. They give it a classic look!

Still working on this one, a little bit at a time.
The final shape is starting to show -- however, inside is now completely hollow!

Maybe I'll call this the "Father Doweling Mysteries." With my originally trashy wood, I gave up on making everything flat, or it would have been only 1/16" rather than 3/4" thick! So I went with what I had and decided to match the piece-edge contours slightly, and dowel them together. Here it is shown with the dowels but no glue in the top sections.
My restored antique planes are shown inside: These have been used heavily. To the tune of 40 gallons of shavings to take the "blackened" finish off this old wood and make it ready for new finish. Pretty good exercise, I might add!

What will your project be when you finish? A hutch or secretary's desk?

The plans are from a 1991 Popular Science (& Shopsmith) projects book. It is called a "Shaker Desk." I am not sure whether it qualifies as a secretary or hutch, but I like the fold-up surface.
Today I embedded some rare-earth magnets to help the lid stay "up" when it is stowed. Now I must go get some sun!

Well, I can finally quit tripping over the mess in the shop. The desk is done and it's in mother-in-law's room now.
Since last time I added the retaining magnets, some used plywood as a back cover, lots of finishing time, and a turned walnut knob. Good to be done!
