Lathe steadyrest 2nd attempt

Some time back I decided I needed a steady rest to stabilize some spoon handles I was turning. The design was ok but didn't preform very well and was awkward to use. (first picture) For my next attempt I went with a more traditional design. It doesn't work very well with the universal tool rest base. (see Picture 2 & 3) So if anyone has any good ideas I could sure use a new approach. I was thinking about making the base of the steady rest startle the universal base from side to side as apposed to the front to back approach I am using.
