Using Cold to Remove Disc Sand Paper

In the past i have used heat to remove pressure sensitive sand paper from the Shopsmith sanding disc. This was really a pain and often i have had limited success. Then I came across this video:

I have left a disc in the refrigerator for 10 minutes (not enough) and 30 minutes (which worked out perfect). There is glue residue left, but I will try "Goof Off" later today to see if that works. I have read Acetone works well.
If anyone else any suggestions, please let me know.

Very interesting idea. That is the opposite of what has always been recommended.

My wife would definitely object. Maybe in the chest freezer, though.

I'd try putting it outside in Winter. It should take about 10 seconds out there if it needs 10 minutes in the refrigerator.

Interesting, I've got a couple that need changing so I will give it a go. Perhaps one heated and one cooled just so I can see and feel the difference.
One of the nice parts about having disks for each grit is that you don't have to try and swap sand paper, so I don't have to remove paper until the end of life and don't have to deal with trying to re-stick used sandpaper.
I'll post my results later, got a batch of pens in process so not sure if I will get to the sandpaper experiment today or not.

Cold test............. don't do this...........
OK it sounded good but the results are worse then I have ever had with heat and it is not even close.
This was a 100 grit shopsmith sanding disk:

This will be my only test for the day since I will now have to spend the rest of my time trying to clean this up.

I would be concerned about thermal expansion and contraction around the arbor but thats just my .02 .

I have never had a issue using a sharp putty knife and have probably changed more sanding disc then most could buy in a lifetime , way back when we had a 20 inch 220v disc sander for wood and a 24 inch 220v for magnesium and a 10 inch for steel ,to install a new pad we/I used adhesive, and a wooden roller to remove the air bubbles and then let it set over night . never used anything but a sharp putty knife and some denatured alcohol .it still works on our ss disc ,jmo things have changed .
