Where is your flag flying?

Yup!! Every day is "Flag Day" here. I am pleased to be able to report that several of my neighbors fly flags too. I only wish that a couple of them would abide by customary rules of flag etiquette. Rules like don't leave it up after dark unless lighted and don't fly it in inclement weather.

Likewise, mine flies every day of the year unless we are having bad weather.

Mine used to fly all the time but a while back the rope broke after 20+ years of use and I have to figure out how to get to the top of the 30' pole to install a new one.

If my flag pole was that big/stout I would not mind climbing it. However, there is no way mine would support me above half way.

My flag pole is only 20 feet high. It sits in a hole in the base. Two people can fairly easily lift it from the base and lay it down for repairs or maintenance. I made it that way so it is easily servicable.

Mine is kind of the same way. There is a piece of 6" PVC pipe cemented into the ground. The flag pole is set in the pipe and then the pipe is filled with sand. As the pole vibrates due to the wind the sand settles. There is an escutcheon over the pipe to keep water out. So it can be removed but, I don't know how easy it will be after 20+ years. BTW, the system has worked perfectly. The pole is perfectly vertical after all those years.
