Missing Lathe Parts

Hi all,

My girlfriends dad had a Shopsmith 10ER sitting in his barn for the past 40 years or so and he gave it to me for Christmas! I have spend a long time getting it running and rehabbing it, and it is back in fighting shape.

I am new to wood turning and would like to try it. It is missing most of the lathe pieces (no chucks or mounts). I have already bought the tool rest on eBay.

Could any of you fill me in on what pieces would be needed to start some wood turning. I want to make sure I have pieces that fit this particular lathe.

Thank you in advance. I am happy to follow up with anything else if it can help, I wasn't sure what all to add since I'm not even sure what all is missing.

Based on what you said you have, you will need the drive center which you drive into the wood (off the machine) and a center for the tailstock.

Also you may wish to have a faceplate for faceplate turning for bowls.

There is a set on eBay for $35 at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shopsmith-Shop- ... Sw9GhYmgcN

Download the free manual I restored from my Google Drive listed in the post below. It has detail, and clear illustrations.

You will find the link in this post http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewt ... 90#p185690

I attached a photo of the machine set up turning a spindle....

If you have the variable speed accessory, you will really be in better position to turn at slower speeds.

"Tell us what you think". Hmmm, One is a rip off and the other is priced just about right. Do you think they would like that???
