The end is broke off at the end , just part of the hole is left...I'm new here give me a min. and I'll figure out how to send you a pic..

That is a typical failure. Just drill a hole that the "pin" will fit into and a second hole that is the diameter of the shoulder of the pin so when the tension is in place it holds.

I didn't have another drill press at the time that was handy, so I set the 10ER into drill press mode and used the old girl to heal herself. It truly was a piece of cake!

looks like I can't send you a pic because the BBCode says it has to be on the internet and not just on computer. Anyway, I'm restoring two Shop Smiths,One of them is my Dad's (a 1948 10er) and the other a ( 1947 10e) that I found in a garage that I bought for a song, the jigsaw was still in the box and was never used.
I never have good luck fixing coil springs so I thought I would just try to buy one. Thanks

I use photobucket to host my images. I like the control. I edit with Infanview which is a free download.

Since you have another unit to use to fix this one, that is what I suggest. These springs are not made anymore (that I know of) and are pretty easy to fix. When I did mine, I just pulled out enough to drill it, held it in place with wood and a couple of clamps and drilled. It took 10 mins .... maybe ....

It may be light playing tricks, but it looks like the hole(s) might still be there(or at least part of them).

Pull it out a couple(only) of turns. You MAY be able to 'unfold' the end.

drilled two holes in the end of the quill spring,one big for the pin to go into and one small for it to lock into, ground out between them and works great. Thanks for the tip Dick. I didn't even pull the spring out.... just the end, held it out with a screwdriver, put it against my vice and done.

Just finished painting all the parts Sat. to my inherited ER10, all new bearings are in. I have to build a new bench (Dad had the old one modified to fit his basement ceiling for the drill press) and I'm ready to put it all back together.
Can't wait to fire it up,I have been cleaning,scraping,sanding,painting since Oct.
I'll post a pic when it's done. Thanks

Just the way I did it. You will find these machines were meant to be worked on. Very repairable ...
