Adding dustport to older bandsaw

Post by tprowood »

My SS 500 band-saw doesn't have the dust port. Is there a recommended way to add one?

Yes. Buy the dust port for a band saw from Shopsmith. They have an entire upgrade that includes a left side cover with the port and a window for the tension arm, or you can just buy the port, cut a hole in the cover and install it yourself. Adding a window a piece of clear plastic to see the tension gauge and adding on the back for a hex wrench to adjust tension are also pretty simple tasks. You might be able to find a flange fitting for plumbing but the dust port by itself isn't that expensive and will save you time.
