Thanks guys! I did indeed feel very lucky to get all those nice pieces of walnut. The rest of them are now squirrelled away up in my garage attic, with AnchorSeal on the ends. They should last me for quite a while.

RFGuy, I simply polish my SS tubes with JPW every now and then, nothing special. But when I took that particular pic, I had just finished cleaning up in preparation for applying the finish to the bowl. (I see that I even had the wipe-on poly already out on the bench behind the bowl.) My theory is that the less dust there is in the shop, especially near the workpiece, the less dust I'll get in the finish. So to prep for finishing, I run the overhead air cleaner, and Hoover the dust off of the floor and the machinery using a shop vac with a dusting brush. BTW, if you were about 1900 miles closer to Columbus, I'd love to trade you some walnut for some mesquite. I've been seeing gorgeous mesquite projects over at LumberJocks.com.

Guess, I will have to start polishing my waytubes instead of just applying JPW. When I saw that pic, between the shine on the Nova chuck and the waytubes it kinda reminded of me that special edition chromed 10ER. My waytubes are stock and continue to have that brushed finish. Anyway, didn't mean to take anything away from that awesome bowl, but I just had to point out how good your Mark V looked in that picture. Well, the Mesquite is what I picked up from around the neighborhood. I keep meaning to get to it, but I need to finish a couple of projects first. Would love to trade some with you, but yeah the shipping is kind of ridiculous.

Good point, JPG! A large flat-rate box is ~ 12x12x6 inches, and costs $20 to ship.

RFGuy, I’m game to slice up a hunk of crotch walnut to fit, if you’ll send me a nice chunk of mesquite in return. Some of the smaller pieces in that first pic look to be roughly the right size.

As much as I appreciate all the compliments from my fellow woodworkers and Shopsmith aficionados, I'm pleased to report that the bowl has now been vetted by an even higher authority. My daughter just sent the following pic, in which the bowl was awarded the highly-coveted "Feline Seal of Approval"!
