Wood River 1 3/8" Expanding Collet Chuck MT1

Post by Lodgepole »

I recently acquired the above mentioned chuck. Unfortunately the spindle is only about 1/2". Does anyone have any suggestions on how to modify it to be used on a Shopsmith?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It looks like WoodRiver has discontinued that model.. I found this through Google, but it is showing it with a 3/4-16 internal thread for mounting

And this one on PSI with 1-8 female thread. https://www.pennstateind.com/store/CXC4.html

Is it possible that the #1MT shaft threads into the chuck body and is removable? If so, what is the size/TPI, there may be an adapter available to mount on the SS 5/8 spindle.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tomorrow, if it stops snowing, I'll try to take it apart. Again, thanks for both of your quick responses.

I found a "Lathe Spindle Adapter Fits Shopsmith Mark V 5/8" Spindle to 3/4" x 16 TPI Thread Chuck" for $42.50.

With the Shopsmith 1/2" router chuck, you could use the Beall expanding collets, unfortunately, they skip the 1 3/8" size.
