Well, I guess the above post negates my theory. BTW, one of the two missing registered BOT's is back.

So it is really spam but just in a language we normally don't see here.

This is one of the situations that I do not understand and am then apprehensive about.

Why does someone join the forum (become a registered member) complete with a profile that includes links to some other web sites but never posts.

On the Shopsmith forum, only the "latest member" is shown. If you click on that member name you see that members profile. I suggest that you not click on any of those links. I have done so and they often lead to places you don't want to go. Remember, when you click on a link (any link) the connection is made by exchanging IP addresses. Once that IP exchange has occurred...the person (computer/server) at the distant end knows more about you than you might want.

When a telephone call comes in from an unrecognized number, it's not answered and, then I block it. If a link is not recognized as legit, I don't click it. Wish they could be blocked, too.

You can google your IP address if you want to see what it is at any given time. Unless you pay for a static address it will change every time you connect to your ISP.

Without wanting to get into a lot of detail it is much safer to use a VPN (Virtual Private Network). I personally use Nordvpn. In addition to hiding your IP address, a VPN offers other privacy and browsing benefits. There are a fair number of places that offer this service if you are interested. If you haven't heard of the service look it up and do some reading. This service also works for phones and tablets, I think I can have either 5 or 6 things hooked up at once which is way more then I need but still a nice addition.

Because it is not a someone it is an automated system. They are probably spewing so much SPAM it takes the system time to catch up and verify the registration actually worked before the posts start.
