Manual pages B 15

Post by PhilSC »

Hi! I’ve been searching through all of the posted docs here, and there are a LOT! (Thanks and a tip of the hat to Everett!) I can’t find a manual section that I once saw about assembling a new Mark V from the shipping container. As I recall, it was a Shopsmith manual with the pages numbered B 15 at the bottom. Have I somehow missed this in this forum’s document stash or am I mistaken or can someone direct me to it online? Thanks in advance!

I think the document you are seeking is in a binder entitled Shopsmith Mark V Home Workshop System (Owner's Manual). Section B covers unpacking and assembling a Mark V (Model 500 or Model 510.

Everett has been restoring the early Mark 5 Manuals for us. The current plan is to do all the Manuals and Parts Lists from 1953 until 1973 which is the first Shopsmith Inc. Manual because Shopsmith sells the more current manuals. Below is a list of the currently known early manuals to be restored. Anyone needing a later manual can purchase one on this site from Shopsmith or try to buy one from a third party sale.

Early Mark 5 Manuals

Supplement to the Mark V Parts List Supplement to Bulletin 504287 – 4/74 Shopsmith Inc. *1
Mark 5 Manual no Copyright ? Edition Bulletin No. 504286 6/76 Shopsmith Inc. *1

*1 I have original copies of these Manuals
*2 Manuals provided by others, 2nd Edition provided by Wiley Wells, 4th Edition provided by Ron Dyck, 11th Edition & 2/63 Parts List provided by JPG

Gaps in the list above are for editions believed to be missing from this list. There may be additional Manuals not accounted for.

Newer editions of the manuals were mostly a result of changes to parts on the machine. Most of the setup and operation information, including the pictures, remained the same through the first Shopsmith Inc. manual. With the Magna Power Tool Corporation Manual Copyright 1957 Cat. No. EM 9100-B 4:57 the Parts lists with Drawings and accessories lists were no longer included in the manual but came separate. The manuals no longer required new editions because of part changes. Known Spare Parts Lists are included above.

Anyone who has or knows of a Manual not listed above let us know so it can be added to the project.

My 1980 Mark V 500 only came with a small 21 page Owners Manual, and a separate 2 page Unpacking and Set-Up Instructions, with only words, no pictures or diagrams.

Shopsmith sells just the Owners Manual for $30 to $36, depending on the model, and a complete set of Owners / Instruction Manual, PTWFE, and Self Study Course for about $120.

http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... sindex.htm

BTW, PTWFE is also available for free as a download from Shopsmith.

On ebay I see several Instruction Manuals and Self-Study Course notebooks for sale ... some look like the older version like my Self-Study course, and some cover the more recent models too. This one may be like what you are looking for ... its Instruction Manual page numbers include the letter pre-fixes. For this ebay item it appears you get both the Self-Study Course and the Instruction Manual.
