That may help. The torsion spring can acquire rusty projections.

Hopefully use(wear) will smooth things out.

Are you implying that it doesn't come apart easily? From the underside I expected to see a snap ring, but it looks like there's just a concave washer that is seated around the hex pin.

Well for now I just shot it with primer and will oil it later. The jointer safety upgrade is something I plan to do fairly soon after getting it back together, so I may not use this guard, but I still want to keep all the original stuff together.

I had mine apart some years ago, so the memory is vague. I think the knob on top unscrews from the bolt and it all comes apart. Here is a link. Also check out the rest of the thread. https://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/view ... 91#p235091

I can feel the end approaching.

I'm not too happy with how spraying the paint on the jointer parts went. It wasn't nearly as good of an outcome as I had on the legs. I think it was mostly due to the primer I used. On the legs I had used bondo glaze filler and then sandable primer to make some of the pitting and defects disappear. With the jointer parts I ended up having to thin the paint even more to get it to lay right. Then when I tried to build multiple coats and prevent orange peal it ended up running to the bottom of my pieces and making a thicker bead at the bottom. It's not terrible but not great either. All I have left on the jointer is to clean up the fence now.

Looking good!

I hope you did not paint the area of the jointer where the outfeed table slides against the infeed table when the depth of cut is adjusted..

I taped off most surfaces like that, but wherever I got overspray that isn't wanted I've been scraping off with a razor.
