Blades for Bandsaw Model # 505641

I have the old Model (#505641) that I bought in 1985.

The Manual says 72" blades are to be used on this bandsaw.

Lowe's and Menards both have 72-7/16" blades.

Will these work or do I have to buy from SS ONLY.

There a bunch of band saw makers on line that will provide 72" blades, however, 72" +/_ 1/2" will also work. Check your bandsaw manual and I believe that the length is listed.

Hi Keith,

My manual states on page 17: "If you use other blades, be certain that they are of premium quality, are 72 inches long (plus or minus 1/2 inch), and are between 1/16 and 5/8 inch wide."

So I would think you could use that Menard's blade, if you think it's of premium quality. However you could tell that before you try it I don't know.

I would give those blades a try. That's the only way you'll know for sure. Price is right!

The Olson Blade (Made In USA) is a 3/8" TPI 4 Blade and it works GREAT.
Now to get a 1/4" Blade also.

I use these and they work great.

I just put on a Bosch 1/4" 72 1/2" blade this past week. I tracks fine but I really had to adjust the rip fence for drift--more so than with any other blades. Though I'm pretty sure I have used a Bosch in the past without this much drift. Fence had to be adjusted (cocked) to the left as you are facing the teeth of the blade by a strong 1/4". Seems excessive to me. Have not tried cross cutting with the miter gauge but I feel the blade will go to the left.
