Re: Bandsaw - How Much Wobble is OK
I would like to get back to the Headrest mounting holes but not right now. The picture I included was only meant to convey how much worse the holes looked visually compared to the base. I need to see if I can find a way to photograph what I think the issue is. These BS eccentrics are new to me, my M...

Re: Bandsaw - How Much Wobble is OK
Here is the closeup of the inside the mounting tube that I referred to earlier. While this seems severe, it is relatively deep inside the hole. Too far down, I think, to have been caused by poor clamping of SPTs unless the original owner had older SPT mounts that extend farther down. Also doesn't lo...

Re: Bandsaw - How Much Wobble is OK
Shopsmith calls them Tube Collars in the Tailstock drawings, and they serve the same purpose on the bandsaw if you are using straight tube mounts. You adjust the height of the bandsaw to match the drive hub with the headstock, then lower the collar against the headrest and lock the collar to the tub...

Re: Bandsaw - How Much Wobble is OK
Some updates, answers, and clarifications are in order. Also, I'm suddenly concerned whether I'm following front/back and left/right convention and can't recall where I've read it. Left - I think there is no debate, it's the end with the headrest casting. When I've been saying front, I'm referring t...

Re: Bandsaw - How Much Wobble is OK
I put the eccentrics by themselves, then with the Bandsaw, in my Greenie and it was much more stable both ways, in comparison to the 520. Back on the 520 I tried several things with the SPTclamps. I tried reducing the offset as much as I could get away with, reversed the clamp to 'outside down to ti...

Re: Bandsaw - How Much Wobble is OK
To answer Dusty's question: I started to say No, I had tried that yesterday with an eccentric in the back and a straight tube in the front and I didn't detect any wobble. This morning I put in two eccentrics and the behavior surprised me. When I tighten the clamp snugly, the back one is tight and th...

Bandsaw - How Much Wobble is OK
I recently picked up a new-to-me 2004 Model 520 and 2001 Bandsaw. Since the early 80's I've used a late 50's Greenie with Magna Bandsaw (some upgrades) and Magna Jointer. For this thread I'm primarily contrasting the 2001 Bandsaw with the Magna. Initially, the 2001 bandsaw was extremely wobbly but I...

Re: SPTclamp adjustment.
I'm pretty new to the forums but not new to Shopsmith. I found the forum relatively recently when I found and Googled a table flatness issue with a used 520 that I had bought. Since then I've done a lot of reading of the entries, but only recently registered so that I could join the discussion. I fo...

Re: Sliding Tee Nuts / Studs
The Tee Bolts won't work well for this anyway. The threaded stud is 5/16 and won't fit the feather board slot without modifying something. I have a Rip Fence Featherboard (555783) that includes two of these Tee Bolts and I tried that once, the studs did not fit the slots in the featherboard. The sma...
