Re: 10ER rebuild
I have the Jointer setup like yours on my Model 10ER and as you have been already cautioned these parts are rare. One nice thing about the Jointer itself is many of the parts are the same as the current Shopsmith Jointer. After the Model 4E Jointer was made it was changed to connect to the Mark 5 wi...

Re: 10ER repair
Another good and cheep rust remover is vinegar. For the way tubes I have a PVC pipe just longer than the way tubes sealed on one end and slip on a cap on the other. I let them sit for two days and they come out great, ready to be polished up. I do that on my Mark V (now upgraded to a 7) using a plug...

Re: Jigsaw Oil
Any of the lightweight oils mentioned should work. The manual I have, Copyright 1965, says SAE 10 oil which would have been a light non-detergent auto oil. As for the gasket, Shopsmith has apparently sold out of them so making one yourself would be the way to go. Looking at the spare I bought from t...

Re: Older Mark 7 parts diagram/manual
Hi, If you have not done it yet go to the top listing of this section for "Shopsmith Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and more" by Everett Davis. There you will find the Mark VII Manual, Parts list and all things Shopsmith. Everett did a wonderful job gathering this information and add...

Re: 10ER Speed Changer Tuning
Proper setup and alignment is key to having a well running speed changer. Aligning the pulley will reduce wear in the bearings. I restored one that the alignment was off causing the floating pulley assembly to push against the pulley arm wearing down the "shoulder" of the bearing to almost...

Re: Template for relocating Shopsmith Retractable Caster Brackets when adding the larger
I should mention, which I neglected before, that my wheels lift about 1/8" off the floor when in the resting position. I said my legs lift about 1/8" and 5/16" since I didn't get exact measurements. The wheels, at rest, lift slightly more than the first step of about 1/8" and the...

Re: Template for relocating Shopsmith Retractable Caster Brackets when adding the larger
Okay you made me look. Let's say both catalog descriptions are partly right. I don't have a '53 catalog but I'll bet it is the same as the '52 entry which says 1/4" & 1/2" and so does a 2008 catalog. Although the '52 & 53' catalogs were for the Model 10's casters they use the same ...

Re: Reborn 10ER
I use a similar way of restoring the Way Tubes. The attached end uses a plumbing plug attached to a router chuck and the free end turns on two wheels. Sorry I do not have a picture of that setup.

Re: Pro Fence adjustment
If you are talking about the spacers that go between the table and the new fence rails than yes they need to be there.

Re: Issue with tool rest
If it is the post turning left & right in the carriage, have you locked the riser height with the large wing nut on the shaft with the raising lever (or wheel on newer models)? If the arm is turning on the post, lock it with the set screw (or locking lever on newer models).
