Jointer disassembly

Hello fellow Geniuses, I am ready to pull my jointer off and take it apart and clean it. I just received my new knives from SS today. Russ has been helping me but I can’t locate the drawings/diagrams/instructions he referred me to. I am also dealing with a nasty brain issue that is resulting in extr...

Re: Turning Bowls in a Wheelchair/Powerchair

You are correct. I stated it wrong thank you. It’s the leg that keeps me back to far. The tailstock is removed or will be removed when I start hollowing. I went out and sat in my chair staring at the shopsmith. My engineering pals swung by and they are going to think about all this. Where there is a...

Turning Bowls in a Wheelchair/Powerchair

Fellow SS Genius’s My machine is a 1983 Mark V 500. I am looking for ideas for a problem I have just “run into”. I have been turning spindles for several months now. When I shifted over to turning bowls I discovered that the right leg/stand is quite the obstacle in getting close enough to the tailst...

Lower Blade Guard Upgrade Kit

Fellow Shopsmith Genius’s, I now have the SS lower blade upgrade kit installed. Yes I ended up using the provided template sawing a small slice off the TieBar Boss. We now have clearance. The strike was caused by the new plastic deflector provided in the kit. >>>>> My question is this... Is it “OK” ...

Re: Mark V 500 Lower Blade Upgrade Kit

Thanks for the input I am going to tackle the upgrade as soon as my new dust collector arrives. I have been learning the art of the Shopsmith Lathe. So far, its a lot of fun. Going from Saw then to Jointer then moving to a lathe on the same machine is just too cool. Especially when all of its owners...

Mark V 500 Lower Blade Upgrade Kit

Fellow Geniuses,
I recently purchased the SS Lower Blade Guard Upgrade kit. Before I even start I thought I would check and see if there are any closely held secrets in putting this together. When I got to “hacksaw” I decided to ask you folks first. Thank You very much.

Sanding Disk / Plates

Fellow Shopsmith Genius’s, Before I ruin my arm what is the best way to remove OLD adhesive from the sanding plates. The first one was easy. The second plate has had paper applied on top of other paper. I got the main paper rounds removed but have a ton of old adhesive left behind. Plate one I used ...

Re: Zyliss Vise

Great review/topic by Dusty! I have an original Zyliss Vice. It was gifted to me two years back in the original box with the instructions, plus a quick review card for on the fly mounting. Here is what I know... Mine was bought in 1979. They were really big at county fairs and that sort of thing. I ...

Re: Lift Assist

WHY would I leave it attached??? Because I am in a wheelchair with a severe neurological condition that limits my weight lift ability to about a whopping 15lbs. I am always looking for work arounds so I can do what I want to do with out asking my wife for help. That’s WHY I would leave it attached. ...
