Re: Mark V maximum idler bearing RPM
I've never seen a bad idler bearing of the 'early style' so have never attempted disassembly. But edma194 posed a link to a similar assembly without the Shopsmith machining. If you look at the 2D cutaway drawing in the picture it shows that the inner grooves that would typically be part of the inne...

Can't check it right now but I think the way tubes for a double tilt have cupped or possibly serrated ends.chapmanruss wrote: ↑Sat May 18, 2024 12:14 pm
Your conclusion is true there are cupped set screws used on Shopsmith Mark Models. Way tubes held into the Bench Ends come to mind.

Free standalone planer located in CT, unclear on the condition. https://newlondon.craigslist.org/zip/d/woodstock-old-power-tools-free/7746189225.html Interesting. I know of a Shopsmith Pro Planer available in central Connecticut but not yet advertised. It's in excellent condition, seen little use. ...

Re: need help, what is thI s
Thanks to all. I'm leery of setscrews as well, however, that's how (nearly0 all SS attachments are mounted to the head stock drive shaft. So, i guess we are trusting that some engineers did their homework when we do anything with a SS The setscrews for mounting the chuck on the main spindle aren't ...

Re: For Sale
You can place an ad on Craigslist, eBay, or somewhere else. Then that ad can be posted in the Heads Up - Bargain 'available' thread in the Community forum. We need a FAQ thread that would cover this subject. This website is hosted by Shopsmith. They graciously allow us to post used Shopsmith ad sigh...

They make a 1/2" router chuck and a 1/4" router chuck. I use a sleeve from from another router chuck for 1/4" bits. I'm not positive that it's all that secure in the Shopsmith 1/2" chuck. I think I'd prefer a collet type chuck for both sizes.
