Re: Bridge city tools
I came across this thread while researching a tool I just bought on eBay: a Shopsmith-branded try-square, made by Bridge City Tool Works! It's a small try-square, in the classic Bridge City brass-and-hardwood style, and with the Shopsmith name and logo engraved into the blade. It came in the origina...

Re: Broken lathe screw center screw
OK, thanks all. I did pick up some #14 x 1-14 at Home Depot, and they look like they should fit - plus I actually prefer the cross-point head, even though there's a bit less torque to be had with the driver. I selected stainless because the ones I purchased are 304, which is not as corrosion resista...

Broken lathe screw center screw
I picked up a couple of clarinet bell blanks, of all things, at Woodcraft, and was setting up to turn a ring holder for my wife. Because the design I have in mind will form a shallow dish near the perimeter, I didn't want to use a regular faceplate, because the screws would intrude into this dish ar...

Re: A new owner of a shopsmith
Thanks, Ron - I already slurped up that (and most of your other files, as well)!

Re: A new owner of a shopsmith
Thanks both Ron and JPG - neither of the is quite what I'm looking for. I guess I'll resort to my usual method of bandsawing off the spine of one of my copies, and running it through my fast scanner. (Yes, I know this sounds violent and destructive...)

Re: PowerPro High Inverter Heat Issue
Ed, your point about the other uses of this type of belt is well taken; the abuse I was seeing in the Shopsmith is nothing compared to the under-hood environment. I haven't disassembled the unit to the point of being able to see the controller board; I'd be sort of surprised to see oil-filled capaci...

Re: Festool price increase coming the 2020 edition
I guess I should consider myself lucky, then. I've been waiting for a Shaper Origin router ( https://www.shapertools.com/en-us/ ) to go by on eBay, and one finally did. I snapped it up, even though it was more than I wanted to pay, because they showed up so infrequently. It turns out that Shaper Too...

Re: PowerPro High Inverter Heat Issue
So far, I haven't worked the unit hard enough to get either the motor or electronics to heat up excessively; my initial concerns was just for those belts, especially the top one. They're running awfully hot to have a very long lifespan. When I do start loading it heavily (which may never happen in m...

Re: PowerPro High Inverter Heat Issue
Well, that was interesting! I wasn't quite ready for bed, so I went out to the garage and took a quick look at the PowerPro. The back cover came off very easily (just two screws, plus the coupling adapters). And sure enough, the upper belt was off by one groove on the upper sheave! I didn't even bot...

Re: A new owner of a shopsmith
If you haven't picked up one yet the book Power Tool Woodworking for Everyone is available for free, in digital format, here on the Shopsmith website. . I searched around a bit looking for that PDF - usually, my Google Fu is pretty good, but apparently not this time. Could you a direct link to the ...
