Motor Questions
I have a (new to me) Mark V, and I'm beginning the refurb process. When I plugged it in and turned it on, it would run up to speed, then blow the breaker (15Amp). I have removed the belt and tried again, and the motor runs under no load and does not blow the breakers. Am I right in assuming that if ...

My thin shop
Humble abode. the front of my shed is about 10" (inches) from the front of the SS. If it didn't have wheels, I'd really be in trouble. By the way, this SS is new to me, and I'm just beginning the tear-down and re-build. Any actual work will mean roll it out (under the carport) and work away!

PEG and Holly
See, that's why I like it here, everyone is so helpful. Thanks for the links, and especially the advice about cutting in winter. I am just south of Vanoucver BC, where we didn't really have a winter this year. Perhaps some more research, and maybe wait until next 'winter'?
Thanks again,
Derek

PEG and Holly
I have the opportunity to remove a rather large Holly tree from a neighbours yard. The trunk is easily 14" in dia., and about 8' straight up! I tried to process holly some years ago by sealing the end, but it checked like crazy and was only really good for inlay (which was great, but I was afte...

Still looking
Thanks to all for the continuing good advice! I am gathering stuff (paste wax, graphite powder, sewing machine oil, rag wipes, etc.), reading the user manual, and watching the videos. I plan to start in about 2 weeks to actually take apart and rebuild. The colour is what I would call 'battleship gre...

I Just got One!
Thanks JPG et al. I work as an IT person, so I know about only making one change at a time, then seeing what the results are. Great information from someone who has been down the road before is always appreciated. I'm even thinking that if I'm going to have it apart anyway, a new paint job and shine...

Thanks all for the welcome
Well, I swpet the cobwebs off, dusted the dust off, put the bits together (and discovered why the 'leave the cardboard tubes in the headstock' warning was there!), plugged it in, turned it on..... and the chuck ran way slower than the motor did... then the breakers blew! So I guess that there is som...

Just Got One!
Hi all, Derek in Surrey BC, just outside Vancouver. As if life couldn't get better; next to no real winter (good for driving, not so good for a 'Winter' Olympics), made a little extra money playing some old Irish songs at a local pub on Wednesday, and I stumble upon a used Mark V with all the fixin'...
