Have you tried drilling out the center first to relieve the inner pressure? I also keep my turnings in a plastic bag to slow down the cracking.

The speed specs. for the different pulley positions is on a sticker on the inside of the belt guard. These machines (sold by Monkey Wards) are light-weight and flimsy. I bought one and sold it 3 days later 'cause it was very cheaply made.

There is a spring inside the cylinder. Attach the blade to the lower chuck, loosen the spring cylinder knob and let the cylinder slide down until it is on the blade, tighten the allen set screw, then lift the cylinder up to desired tension and tighten the knob.
