I have checked and rechecked mine. That whine just seems to be part of the normal operation. I've heard similar sounds from other brands. One day I heard it from "Norm's" coming though the television. It's been ignored since. I'm curious to what others say.....

Go to the Shopsmith.com site and open the owners section. Next on a top bar, open the Mark V section. A selection list will drop down. Select serial numbers and you should get chart of serial numbers and the year built. Easy....

Hang them on wall
Shopsmith sells a storage system, 555941. I took a good look around and found some similiar brackets I had in garage. Having the five foot pipes....I then hung the brackets on the wall and can now hang at least four of my tables out of the way.
