Re: Mark VII “Project Machine”
I get that but it’s the same for either the follower or the button, is it not?

Re: Mark VII “Project Machine”
But sluggish movement toward slow would be no different from MkVII follower to button bearing.
In either case, time to lubricate.

Re: Spindle Max Speed
Okay, more research. I agree it doesn’t make sense so I did some more tests. I tested both the Mark 5 (greenie) and the Mark V (510), each with a 4” faceplate and a drive hub. I added a strip of reflective material to the faceplate’s edge and the side of the hub. 20231011_140341_Original.jpeg 202310...

Re: Mark VII “Project Machine”
I consider the pinned follower to serve the same purpose as the wire loop on the m5. IMHO the pins only become relevant with sluggish response of the floating sheave due to either too fast adjustment of the speed dial or inadequate lubrication of the floating sheave. Main purpose is non-rotation of...

Re: Spindle Max Speed
That’s what I thought but I can’t make it change. I tried the “saw-joint” speed setting and read the saw blade. It was almost exactly the rpm of my Unisaw, 4300.

Re: Mark VII “Project Machine”
We will find out tomorrow or the next day. I think I read that the main one is the same but the second one may not be.
I’ll keep you posted.

Re: Spindle Max Speed
I agree that the link belt is one too long but the worn, barely 1/2” vee belt ran the machine at 1000 rpm higher.
I really don’t get it.

Re: Spindle Max Speed
This is on the 510, not the Mark VII. The MkVII is currently waiting for a new (eBay) Mk V control sheave. I have proven that will work by trying a control sheave out of my Mk 5 but it needs 1/4” cut off to reach full speed. I’ll do that to the new one, not the Mk 5 one. It goes back where it came f...

Re: Spindle Max Speed
I’ve used link belts before as have some of the real gurus of ShopSmith. I have no problem with them and I know the belt width affects the speeds. My question is whether anyone can explain to me why in getting 2000rpm over the advertised max. That’s not a few percent.
