What is the width I need to plan for in trying to use other saw accessories like a Delta Tenon Jig? Yeah, the miter slot is just barely non-standard. You kind of have two choices: 1.) Buy the Shopsmith accessories, or 2.) Build your own jigs I've been doing #1, but now that I ahve most of the basic...

Just to be clear...

Thanks for the compliment Dusty, but just to be clear, that link was not my article or my photo. This is a picture of what I made - somewhat simpler, but gets ther job done.

...or make your own bar.

FYI, I just built a variant of this: http://www.newwoodworker.com/dilindjig.html If you use your planer or jointer to get the miter bar exactly the right size, and then use a piece of thin plywood to stablize, you can make a pretty solid gauge without having to buy the Incra miter bar. Well, I'm no expert, but no one else has responded...

Fine Woodworking (at least I think it was them) recently ran an article on stong joints, and surpisingly, the good old lap joint was one of the strongest (and stronger than mortise and tenon). Lots of gluing surface. Unless you are looking for a particular asthetic, I'd probalby use the lap or maybe...

Sure! I mean, you need to start with a 4 X 6 timber, then mill it down, but... :p

Good Knives

I think my Henkels Knives are better than anything made in the US. FYI, some of the best knives I have ever used are made in the US - Cutco. They have some silverware and garden tools from other countries, but their core product (knives) are all made and manufactured here. I have had them for about...

"Reminder?"

Hmmm:
Soon (late Summer of THIS year), Shopsmith will introduce an all-new, upgraded, computer-driven Headstock for the Shopsmith MARK V.
Oh, well, what new product ever ships on schedule these days?

:-)

Llc

FYI, I think Shopsmith is now a Limited Liability Company (LLC). These are usually set up for a very small set of members that each have an equity stake in the firm - no public stock. It is similar to incorporation, but a lot cheaper to administer and manage.

Common Problem

I had this same problem on a Jointer I picked up from eBay. Fomr what I understand from Customer Service, it is a common problem. It took me three or four weeks to get the part.
