Ok my replacement wedges, bolt and headstock lock handle is here.... How the heck do I insert the pin into the handle (that ties it to the bolt)???

Yay. I got the belt back on and mounted it to the way tubes. Started right up and changed speed good. Of course it didn't lock to the way tubes because the wedges were so marred--but I expected that. Then mount the motor pan to the headstock with 5 screws. Pulling the floating sheave out, install the motor drive belt. Can you elaborate on this? I don't think I made my incompetence clear enough.... 1) I pulled the headstock off the way tubes. (and mounted the 520 carriage and table without incident.) 2) I attempted to put headstock back on. It would not go on all the way, so I moved the headstock back to the floor. This is when I screwed up...

I took the headstock off the way tubes in the process of upgrading from 500 to the 520. When I went to put the headstock back on, it would no longer go all the way into the way tubes. I don't understand--the main shopsmith page says the max support area for the 500/510/520 are all 22" deep !??

cleaning rust

I purchased a used mark V (1985). The main table has some rust on the legs (where the notches are.) What is a good, safe way to clean this up. It won't come off with elbow grease alone.

(By safe, I mean--I don't want the table to slip in the middle of sawing something.)

So I *think* I have a 500. I only have one fixed table and no floaters. (I bought it used--the serial number puts it in 1985 range.) I was looking at the 520 upgrade and was just flabbergasted.
