Re: Shipping Issue

Nice--my order from three weeks ago (not PowerPro) just shipped today. Strip Sander + Chisel Sharpening attachment, from the sale they ran, and a bunch of other stuff. Two items are out of stock, though, and I assume will ship later...they show expected in-stock date of August 1st. :( Eh, it's no Am...

Re: '55 Surprise...Starting Restoration

I defer to Ed's diagram with green arrow as being more correct than my diagram, simply because it is ShopSmith green. :)

Re: '55 Surprise...Starting Restoration

Though it's not listed as a square nut in the parts list (it's now listed as Part #102634 Hex Nut 5/16"-18) , I've also seen a square nut used on the "ears" that keep the eccentric bushing in.

Re: '55 Surprise...Starting Restoration

That square nut is probably from disassembling the legs. Part #120372

Re: The usual noobie mistake -help please

Belts will "go bad" just sitting under tension for long periods of time. Almost any part can rust partially and start to seize depending on the storage conditions (temperature / humidity). I don't think you can trust what anyone says about the last 20 years of storage conditions, unless yo...

Re: Motor runs, looses power quickly

I just remembered. He kept asking if I wanted the "clutch" for the scroll saw. Makes some sense, I guess, but at the time I wasn't immediately sure what he was talking about.

Re: The usual noobie mistake -help please

I had the same issue with my '85--the fan sheave and floating sheave did not like to move, and this put undue stress on the motor when the belt was connected and you tried to move through the speeds. I had to pry the two sheaves apart with screwdrivers to even get them to separate--this is not norma...

Re: 2 Bearing Quill

Very true, so I suppose usefulness would depend on the application, and its frequency, when weighing if it's a worthwhile thing. I just don't think they are an automatic "yes" despite the fact that I myself tend to put them in if opportunity presents itself. Thanks for indulging my tangent.

Re: 2 Bearing Quill

I think that ends up just putting more stress on one of the bearings ultimately, or more stress on the drive sleeve, depending on the irregularity. I mean I understand the point, I just don't know if it gains you much in the end. It's one more wear part. I'd rather change out my drive sleeve than ha...
