Cleaned up a goldie, where I found compacted sawdust inside the Headstock. I think that the PO oiled the sheaves and spindle advance w/o blowing out the sawdust leading to the compacted accumulation. Ace Gray Paint

I think I looked at Ace Machinery Gray and it seemed to be too light. I tried an Ace Dark Smoke Gray, that was closer but still too light.

Twice, those conditions were the precursor to switch failure. Both times it was with toggle switches. You've already said it has a toggle switch and a Pre 1991 MKV would have a toggle switch. Riving Knife for 500 TS

I added a wood spline to a throat plate....by cutting a blade slot in the throat plates that I made from 1/4" particle board then gluing in an over size wood spline in the backend of the slot. Kinda like the Microjig Table Saw Splitter . Height of spline may have to be terminally height adjuste...

Seems that you have most of the mechanics worked out already. Youtube video at the 2:00 minute mark gives the details of how a 5/8" pin chuck works and suggestions for a chuck (or a drill chuck or faceplate mounted) 3/8" pin chuck is shown and a reccomendation for the pin replacement stock...
