I sold the 500 on ebay, (for a modest profit!). I was very happy with it, until I saw a really cheap 520 (2005) on Craigslist one day. It had a bandsaw and jointer and was less than I had invested in the 510.
The 510 went to ebay, minus the sander, and I am now even happier.:D
Since writing this, I think I've bought and sold four Shopsmiths. At first it was a rusty $100 special that I planned to cleanup and turn into a Deputy dedicated to the belt sander and a 12 inch wheel. Then my son and a friend decided they want to start building custom pool cues. They offered to spend a weekend cutting and splitting firewood in exchange. The next three were purchased only to get an option that the owner wouldn't sell separately. A Pro Planer, a stand alone scroll saw, and a dust collector. In each case, I was able to resell the excess stuff on Craigslist for what I had invested. The last one was a 510 with a strip sander and router table. I decided to keep it as a companion to the 520. Since the first message, I bought a house with a three car garage. I have lots of room now. ;)

My Main Shopsmith is a Mark V 520 from 2001 that has been completely upgraded to a Mark 7. I did the upgrades myself. I also have a Model 10E (Ser. # 4708) and a Model 10ER (Ser. # R64000) which includes the 4E Jointer and the later Jigsaw (part 11 100) along with many of the other accessories.

Mine is a 510 dated 12-31-97 purchased new from Shopsmith. I had a band-saw for a while but it was too small so it went away and I got a 14 inch stand alone Grizzly. No other modifications but recently ordered the 520 table upgrade and the double tilt base upgrade (delivery early next year). I wanted to go the Power Pro Head route but found out from Shopsmith the operating temp range for the Power Pro upgrade is between 40 and 120 degrees F. My shop is an unheated garage (metal shell, concrete floor) so a good percentage of the year it would be unusable. Right now the garage thermometer reads 22 F. I asked them about this because my newer inverter combo welder has the same limitations. So for now I'll stick with my present setup

I do not think I would be doing much in a shop with a temperature below 40°.

Welcome to the forum Pappy.

If your shop temperature is 22°, you do not belong in the shop. Go inside and get warm.

Mine isn’t listed in the survey

Just kidding, it’s the red headed step child Mark 2 I picked up as scrap. It came with the table saw and jig saw attachments and had some damage from being knocked over.

The jig is a ‘55 and the headstock is a ‘58-ish, except it’s had the motor replaced by a balador 1/2 hp. I figured it would be worth fixing up and using as a table saw and lathe for turning whip handles in my spare time.

Although I recently saw a Mark V with a TON of SPT’s for a couple hundred bucks. I still might go for it but I’ve got to make room for it first ;)

There is nothing wrong with either a Mark 2 or a red headed step child! :D

If there’s nothing wrong with a mark 2 then how come it’s not in the survey? ;)

You know how to handle the temperament of a red head?

Gingerly. :D
