Cant believe my '81 model mark 5 still runs like a dream

#259721 by james1726 » Fri May 17, 2019 4:58 pm

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum as far as posting. I have read a lot of good information on here and I thank you folks for that.

I have a '81 (according to the serial number) Mark 5 that I bought several years ago from a Fireman who was building a house with it. When he finished he sold it to me. I later sold it to a co-worker to build a house on his farm and when he was finished I bought it back.

The serial # is 111589 which according to the chart is an 81 model, however mine has the 510 package and also the the two bearing quill. I cant believe the fireman had it upgraded so i'm wondering about that serial number if it's correct or not.

Again Thanks for all the great information.

I think you have a Mark V 510 manufactured on Nov 15, 1989.

If the Serial Number is SS-111589 than it would have been made in December 1981 and later upgraded to a Mark V 510. If it does not have the SS prefix in the Serial Number than it is a Date Code and JPG is correct. Either way it is a Mark V since the Mark 5 labeling on the machine was changed to Mark V between January and March 1980. Also the Date Code/Serial Numbers are printed on a sticker whereas the Serial Numbers are stamped on the lower edge of the Belt Cover Vent Plate.

If you get a second to snap a photo and size it down to fit in the forums, please take one of the serial number and we will know for sure.

From your description it sounded like there was an upgrade to the 510 by the buyer you sold it to, as your comment suggests you noticed the differences when you bought it back.

You would not have mentioned it otherwise I suspect.
