It still worries me that the old set-up didn't work. The metal guard system was used for many years and until 1987 or so. Since the new guard system will line up the same way as the old one you are likely to still have the problem.
Perhaps a call to the tech number at Shopsmith might be in order. You can explain your problem and they can ask you questions and then if you want the new guard system they can take your order.
Since you did post here maybe you feel it would be easier to continue the subject here and you are certainly able to do this... if so please give us somemore details or post back and I will ask some questions.
