Shopsmith 10E Shaper Fence?

Post by amboyna »

Anyone have any idea what this is? S/N 1921 on Craigslist in Texas. Certainly looks like a shaper fence as advertised. But it doesn't look like any Shopsmith Shaper Fence I have ever seen. Here is the ad:

Shopsmith 10E S/N 5804 restored.
Shopsmith 10ER S/N R39267; purchased 10-10-50 in San Francisco.

As John said not a Shopsmith part. There are several items in the ad that are not original Shopsmith parts for S/N E-1921 as well as what looks like a homemade dust collection attachment.

Like the Mark V quill advance handle!

Miter gauge, rip fence, main table definitely 10E.

Tailstock 10ER.

1-8 speed changer.

The stuff attached to the top looks like the Universal Holddown. But a Shopsmith Universal Holddown has narrower and longer tension bars.

It just shows the legacy of the SS. There is no reason to change things that don't need to be changed.

Also notice that the speed changer is 1-8.

. . .
REF: Mark V handle

Ya, but it is three versions removed from the original and no where near as effective.

Obviously the posters "sources" have no idea about this machine. To quote from the post...

"Info I've gathered thus far is that this is a 10E model or 10-Experimental. One person said it was probably made between 1952 to 1955 however, I am told that this unit has Magna written on it which is the OEM from the 60's. "

John,
I have given him the correct information on those errors in his posting. I do not believe the seller has been here on the forum.
