My New Drum Sander

Post by gr8mesquite »

I decided I needed a small drill mounted drum sander, and since I was in a hurry I decided to make one. I went to ol' reliable YouTube for ideas--I wanted it sleeveless to be able to use any paper in my shop. I found plenty of videos, and they were easy--use a hole saw to cut out a couple of wood (2 x4) circles, glue them together, put a bolt thru, mount it to the drill press and sand it into perfect round, glue on some paper (neoprene optional) and you're off.

I wasn't satisfied however because the glue meant it wasn't quick change, unless I made more than one. Then I remembered that I had lots of adhesive backed velcro left over from my thickness sander project, plus lots of loop back sandpaper, in 2 grits, that I bought for that project. I also had plenty of PVC pipe.

So,

I made a slit in it to tuck the sandpaper ends down to avoid an unravel.

It works great.

Great project, well done!
