I'm with mgdesigns. I've removed headstocks many times and I just slide them off and then back on. I've never had a problem. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Bob, you forgot to mention that the Mark 2 comes with a free weedeater! LOL! That just might be the best part of that deal.

I always enjoyed watching Nick on the Sawdust Sessions. He was not only very knowledgeable but funny, too. I wish he would contribute on this site more often.

Nick Engler books

I just bought yet another Shopsmith and it came with a large box of woodworking books. When I got it all home I dug through the books and found that it contained a like-new set of 9 'The Workshop Companion' books written by Nick Engler. Nice bonus!

Way and Bench tubes and the associated frame parts are cheap on ebay. If one took Option #1, they could buy a frame on ebay and put their old headstock on it to make a very inexpensive second Shopsmith for their shop. Too bad the parts are so heavy. Shipping might be fairly high.

I've bought several Shopsmiths that had cuts clear through the miter gauge, too. I've also had a couple of rip fences with large gouges in them. I can understand a nick but cut clean through!?!?!?

I, too, use the piece of paper between the miter bar and slot to tighten the bar. It works very well and avoids overtightening the allen screw as in this thread: http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/showthread.htm?t=2203 Not a nice position to find yourself.

The washer and screw are for the 510 miter bar. There is a slot cut in the 510 table miter slot for the washer to slip into. It keeps the miter bar from coming out of the track.
