BigSky: No. I do not have any connection with the company. I'm a user/hobbiest like most of the guys here. I just thought that the only option............that had not been discussed.......deserved to be brought forth. Francis brought up a good point. One who has no Shopsmith experience can sometimes...

Then again..............another option........not mentioned yet; Purchase a new machine from Shopsmith. Then you can be assured that everything will be included, plus the warranty. I've never regretted starting this way. Sometimes Shopsmith has reconditioned machines for sale at a discount. Give cus...

I like to secure the "quill shaft" end of the arbor in a vice on the workbench. Then you can easily use an adjustable wrench to unscrew the arbor nut. Trying to use two adjustable wrenches, one on each side of the blade, can result in injury from the sharp blade if one of the wrenches happ...

There is a time and place for both roller and ball bearing stands. I've become a fan of Rockler's Heavy Duty Flip Top stand (their #43399). This stand can be either a roller or ball bearing. It is perhaps the heaviest stand on the market, it doesn't fall over like so many lighter stands. With an acc...

Steve: When looking give extra consideration to models 510 or 520 (even better). It will be worth a longer wait and extra $$ over the earlier 500 model. It goes without saying that you should power the machine up and run it thru the speed range before buying. Also look for the standard accessories t...

I have a Wixey, and I use it. However, I've found that you have to take the battery out when not in use, or it will be dead when you need to use the device.

My Starrett 6" combination square is so accurate, and handy in my apron pocket. I'll tend to reach for it most of the time.

My son-in-law, a computer nerd, once asked me if I had a calculator. I said "sure", and handed him a slide rule.

Getting back to the heat "problem/observation": Several years ago, when my planer was mounted on my MKV, I was involved in a lengthy session planing some hard maple. The headstock above the high speed PTO got too hot to touch. There was no damage, this headstock continued on for ten more y...

Router table vs Power Pro: I wouldn't say that one "replaces" the other, although there obviously is overlap in usage. Routers run at 20,000 rpm or more because that is the nature of universal type electric motors. While their HP rating is suspect, they definitely are high speed low torque...

Popular Woodworking; Having attended the last two Woodworking in America conferences, and having met most of the staff, the magazine has a "personal touch" for me.
