Animus, we will disagree. We're turning a pen blank here, not a bowl. I've used a drill chuck to do some mill work, (on aluminum no less) and it worked just fine. (But, I'm using a real {read that Cast Iron} Shopsmith, not one of the newer aluminum-based ones.) Milling involves holding a tool in so...

Here is another relatively simple solution for a paint booth. It uses braces or jacks normally used to help hold crown molding and are called by some a "3rd Hand."

Only one but it is still running just fine with 34 years of constant use. With TLC it will probably keep running for the rest of my life.

I personally cannot support the concept of using the drill chuck to hold a pen mandrel or for any other lathe/turning use. It is not designed to take the lateral stresses that turning will put on it. You would be better off using the router chuck attachment to hold the mandrel (514632 or 514631 --$1...

It seems like an option that utilizes the SS main table would be preferred, as it gives you the easy ability to raise/lower etc. as needed. Matter of fact, the suggestion of just clamping it to the main table seems the simplest - has anyone tried this and had troubles with it slipping or otherwise ...

I agree, but I am worried about the lack of control of the stock away from the fence. How do you control that. That lack of control is why I was looking for something like the Grripers when I found them .... Dick I always cut with the smaller piece being the cut off that isn't being controlled by t...

Changing Bandsaw Tires

Here is what looks like a relatively easy way to change band-saw tires but it requires building a special jig just for that purpose:

I just clamp my compound miter circular saw directly to the table on my "500" from the back. Then I can slide it back and forth to set-up the support I need on either side with the extension tables. And I can adjust the height of the table (within reason) to match the adjustable height of ...

I've been using this http://www.amazon.com/Wixey-WR25-Digital-Height-Gauge/dp/B006WMRVS4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1399418013&sr=8-3&keywords=Wixey to set blade heights, especially for dados. Being able to allow the magnets to hold to the table/ insert surface would make adjustments signif...
