Don't have nearly enough bandsaw experience to pretend I'm some sort of expert on them. That said, I have noticed my blade doesn't deflect until I start feeding the wood (or whatever) too fast. The faster I push, the more the blade deflects.

Years ago, when I was new to shopsmith, I spent the money for one of the traveling schools. The teacher wasn't enthusiastic about doing mortising work with the ss due to the flex and slop. As a class, we tried it, and could see what he was talking about. The forces are pretty high, and getting every...

Had to dismantal the workshop of a very clever craftsman/engineer. Twas a sad job indeed. I can say that he carefully fit thing together in interesting stands and the like, in order to minimize space used. Tucking this under that, the other between, turned thusly. He put many hours into the design o...

I've also had fine results with a strip of something straight, and two clamps to hold it to the table. Be it spring clamps or screw clamps. Works just as well on the drill press as a locating guide when I want to poke holes repeatedly, and as a faux router or milling machine, when I want to slide th...

Having nothing to do with Shopsmiths, I was surprised to notice we both have a DeLorme PN40 in common. An unusual GPS to see people use.

No experience with the Klamp Vise, just some observations about it and shop vises. We've all used quick clamps for things, and every one of us has had things twist around in them due to their small footprint. I see nothing that would lead me to believe it would be any different with the Klamp Vise. ...

I've very dubious of this claim. I know of nothing in wasp spray that will cause the debilitating effects of the capcacin oil used in self defence sprays. I've been hit in the face numerous times with wasp spray doing extermination work, and never found myself incapacitated.

Something else to consider with that piece, is that normally it is not a single board, but a laminate. The pieces are bent, then joined. On small boats, the common example of this is canoes and their rails. A thin inner piece, spacer blocks, and another thin outer piece. Another thing is steam bendi...

I have not used those specific tools, but I have used similar. Harder to do well than you would think. Do a second pass and you are almost guaranteed to not line things up correctly, resulting in a double strike imprint. Trying to go truly straight is ni to impossible. Trying to get perfectly parall...

General or General or General or General

Now maybe it really is this General. Or, more likely, one of the splinters of this General. Though they don't indicate so anywhere on their pages that I see.
