My wife and I noticed today in our 2 papers, OC Register ands LA Times, that only the Peanuts comic strip noted the anniversary of the June 6, 1944, D-Day landing at Normandy.
Wonder if the tv news will remember.
I guess that we are forgetting the sacrifices made there.

HELP! Jointer has started to taper boards
I am jointing Qtrsawn hard maple for some drawers. My first 5 boards (16 inches long) jointed flat in around 2 passes at 1/32 cut. On the 6th board it required more passes until it was obvious that the leading edge was being tapered. The 6th board was adjacent to the 5th board from a longer piece bu...

Re: Converting a Pro Planer to a Mark-Mount Planer
Remember the ProPlaner has a very heavy cast iron table that makes it difficult to pick up and move. The SPT planer has a lighter stainless steel table. Ya just got to love this Forum! I had completely overlooked that fact in considering a conversion. :p I have no room for a Pro Planer but find the...

Converting a Pro Planer to a Mark-Mount Planer
My Mark-Mount Planer is a manual feed model bought many years ago when budgets were very tight. But at my age now the elbows begin to groan when I have a lot of planing to do :( I need to get a feed motor fix, but that would run around $1,000 from Shopsmith  I can locally get a Pro Planer for a...

Re: Stop Plunger #152 adjustment.
Like Bill, I too use the Wixey to set 90 deg table-to-blade. I zero on the blade and adjust the table to 90 deg. But when the Wixey is on the blade for the zero, I suggest using a square behind the Wixey to be sure it is at 90 deg to the table. Otherwise, your zero can be off as much as .2 deg to be...

Re: Tape Measure Surprise
... When I must make an accurate measurement with a tape measure, I do not use the hook. Instead, I measure from the 1" mark and adjust the result by 1". Oh MY! I did that a few times but :o sometimes, I forget to add the inch that is missing! :o :( Results were not good! Like the s...

Re: Plane iron sharpening
Hopefully you are right, Bob!
I do it because it is quick and I can assess the tip for any damage. If the backside gets scratched along the way a quick re-polish will show that I need to re-flatten.
