Re: Cutting miters
This is a case of the wrong tool for the job. As you've seen, your Shopsmith can do the job if necessary, but is isn't a great experience. I almost never use the table saw function on my 520 because I have a cast iron table saw in the shop. Even with a tilt blade, a table saw is only slightly better...

Re: What Is This?
It is possible the marks were made by a foot like this., but I would agree with the lathe center guess.

Re: Project Building Plans
The only time I use plans is if I need to submit something for a building permit. For most of my projects, I may have a sketch and rough dimensions unless it needs to fit a specific space. With a couple of exceptions, any jigs I've built have been one time use for a specific task and usually disasse...

Re: Dovetail/Box Joint jigs for Router
It isn't generally recommended because the pins and tails are relatively weak when made from plywood or particle board. For plywood drawers, use either tongue & groove or dowels or dominos.

Re: Dovetail/Box Joint jigs for Router
I've been using a Sommerfeld dovetail jig for about 10 years and have no complaints. It is easy to set up and accurate and under $250.00. It used to be the Katie Jig before they went out of business. https://www.sommerfeldtools.com/Sommerfelds-Dovetail-Jig/productinfo/DTJ/ I also have a Porter Cable...

Re: Hammered Verde Green Spray Paint
Both of the below locations claim to have it in stock. I've never used either supplier so buyer beware.

Re: What finish for chisel handles?
I use shellac on my hand plane knobs and totes and it is both durable and looks good. I have a friend that says when his hands sweat the shellac gets sticky so he uses tung oil. I use BLO on outdoor tools and do a half hearted application of daily for a week, weekly for a month, monthly for a year a...

Re: Face frame Clamps, the question
As I was researching this morning to solve my own dilemma, I found a couple of options if you plan on using pocket holes and screws. I typically use dominos for face frames but may need to go the pocket hole route for this build. Kreg has a clamp that engages one of the pocket hols and clamps the jo...
