Spiders in the Workshop
How do you prevent spiders making webs in your workshop? I have gone around mine and attempted to seal every crack I could find. I've caulked around doors and windows, run a bead of silicone around the sill where the wood meets the concrete floor but still the spiders get in. When I am in the shop e...

Re: Duplicating turned legs without a duplicator
Very cool! Non-cupped carbide cutters when applied flat (scraper) can give a rough finish, but cupped versions can give amazing results, especially when tilted (skew). I watched the video and he did an amazing job with those tools. I th...

Re: Duplicating turned legs without a duplicator -Final thoughts
In the end I am pleased with the results of this project. I accomplished what I set out to do and the end results are more than acceptable. I haven't a clue how this compares with the Shopsmith duplicator but I managed to put the whole thing together with no out of pocket expense which is important ...

Re: Duplicating turned legs without a duplicator - Part 3
OK, everything is now fabricated, aligned, and set up. The blank is mounted so I guess its time to take a test drive. IMG_0149.JPG I started the roughing using the round cutter and despite my apprehension things went well. The chips started flying. The cutter was cutting with no chatter and it was v...

Re: Duplicating turned legs without a duplicator - Part 2
Now I need a platform for my cutting head to ride on. right now I am planning to make some legs for a farm table so I need to be able to handle a 29" spindle. I had some melamine plywood I bought at Rockler a few years ago just waiting for the right project. Just have to figure out how to mount...

Duplicating turned legs without a duplicator
If you read my post on the coffee table build http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=16122 you know that I had to turn multiple legs and struggled a little to do so. All the while I was thinking how much easier this task would be if only I had the lathe duplicator. Even though Sho...

Re: 100+ year old barn wood
It is no surprise that your wife is "very pleased" with the new/old table! I enjoyed your expression of the only way to build this table. And your effort to get old wood. Beautiful job! Just beautiful!! Excellent workmanship! :D :D Also, I'm thrilled that you are able to make those legs w...

Re: 100+ year old barn wood
LOVE that table. How does it compare to the one the D-I-L saw? Bet the grand-boys are thinking "we CAN'T destroy that table." :D The picture she showed me was similar in design but built from new wood and made to look old. To me it was very obvious it wasn't reclaimed wood and the distres...

Finally some competition and it doesn't ruin your blade. Not much info yet so it will be interesting to see more when available.
