Re: The usual noobie mistake -help please
You said you removed the drive belt to start the motor without load; did you replace the drive belt when you performed the test in Step 4, then, where you manually rotated the spindle while turning the speed control? You'd have to pull the speed control and check it over, especially the teeth, to se...

Re: 2 Bearing Quill
With the splined shaft inserted into the coupler, does that second bearing even do anything? You can feel a lot of lateral play at the end of the splined shaft on a single bearing quill vs. a double bearing quill, but that play all but disappears when inserted into the drive sleeve. I seem to recall...

Re: Mark 5A vs Mark 5B
JPG beat me to it. Might have something in instructions about 500 vs 505+ table size. Then again, given some of Mother's instructions, it might not.

Re: Mark 5A vs Mark 5B
I'm with JPG. I assume that is referring to the headstock casting designation, which I would assume is a "B" given the year cited, but if it's the sharpening tool I'm thinking of, I don't know how the casting would affect its installation or use. I know the lathe chisel sharpening is done ...

Re: Tomsalwasser Asked For It
Hmmm...the way he assumed I was trying to give poor instructions when I merely gave a suggestion, and then implied he knew what assumptions I was making about his technical knowledge? Or my ability to provide clear instructions to somebody with no technical knowledge? Ugh, I know, you are right, JPG...

Re: Tomsalwasser Asked For It
Ha--perhaps, but he complained enough about not having instructions to turn around and ignore them. A 30 second Google search would have revealed to him that my suggestions were cloud-based in the first place. In the time he spent complaining about my initial post, he could have instead researched w...

Re: Good Oh United States Postal Service
Yes, I caught at least the vague implication. Mine was similar, it was a temp worker around the holidays, perhaps trying to make his Christmas a little merrier.

Re: Good Oh United States Postal Service
Yes, well, I've definitely had three or four packages that just didn't show up anywhere for a while, even though they were marked "delivered" and after calling in the PO and complaining enough times, a few days later they, too, were magically "delivered." The address mix up probl...

Re: Good Oh United States Postal Service
Wow--I always get the clueless runaround when I call the USPS on missing packages. I'm 3215 2nd Ave and there is a 3215 12th Ave which is, ironically, only one block away. We get swapped packages all of the time, and the PO here never has a clue as to what is going on.
