I have been working with a 12" throw midi lathe, and a larger lathe at the Army craft shop. Turning pens, natural edge bowls, bottle stoppers, pepper mills, etc. I now have a SS Mark 7 and am having trouble with set ups for short spindle work, like 6" pepper mills, and other short spindle...

How's it holding up? What kind of use is it getting? Paul, I am not quite sure what you are asking about. I slipped a power pro onto my 520 last year and found that I lost a bit of carriage travel with the lift assist that I added at the same time. I use a dual bearing mandrel saver from Vicmarc fo...

A Bit More Articulation

I have the universal tool rest and it is great, but sometimes I just need the standard tool rest with a bit more articulation to do a little turning job. I used the tool rest bar from the universal and draw filed a shaft to fit the standard tool rest. The power pro and a new file made quick work of ...

Each of us sets a tolerance for the project, this tool simply tells us if the machine will perform within that tolerance. I for one am getting old and the Shopsmith always has much tighter tolerance than I.

Yes, very neat solution. It can even be used to measure runout (wobble) at the blade. Incidentally, what is your measured runout? At the spindle about .001 and with a ½" collet a tad over .002. I am in the process of getting a collet made to go from 5/8 straight to a shortened MT2 dead center ...

Thanks Chris, just removed it and now it is back in a tidy state until I have it covered with fresh saw dust.

Post For Dial Indicator

Quick way to make a post to handle your dial indicator and all done on the Mark V. You need about 5" of 3/4" drill rod, 3/4 stop collar and a ¼x20 bolt and washer.

PowerPro.....Bubbles Under Control Panel

Gets very hot in my shop during the summer time and when I returned this fall I found several bubbles under the plastic cover on my control panel. Have any of you experienced this with your PowerPro? Is the top plastic film on the control panel to be removed when the PowerPro is put into service? Ma...

Do the newer Shopsmith belt sanders have sealed ball bearings on the idler drum or do they still use the brass bushings?

Very neat. Excellent solution. One question though. How do you go about zeroing? The minimum thickness that the machine can plane to is 1/8", so I installed the ledge to read 1/2" on my caliper at the minimum thickness setting on the SS. The 1/2" measurement on the caliper would yiel...
