thanks

Thank you for the info, but perhaps I've been unclear. The surface of either of the tables is not machinist flat. Using an engineer's straight edge you can see light under the edge. I haven't placed a feeler under the edge but the gap is in the range of one or two thousandths. That is what I'm askin...

joiner flatness

I have an old joiner that I was given recently and I am rehabing it. I was stoning the surface of the tables and laid a straight edge on the tables. There are some areas where light is visible under the straight edge. In a machine tool I would have the surfaces ground flat (flat in the machinist sen...

disc sanders a big plus

I'm in agreement the disc sander is a great accessory that I would have never bought on it's own. But after using my Shopsmith and the disc I wouldn't want to be without one. And the conical disc is someways is even better. I didn't have a joiner and at first I used the offset fence with the flat di...

I did find a copy of the original instruction sheet. The gauge was used for installing the hinges of doors. I know ...

Be carefull with old tools

I have inherited a variety of tools from my Father, Uncle and Grandfather. One of these was something I used to set the blade height on my 10ER, not knowing what it was. (By the way it worked well for the purpose.) Finally I took a closer look. It is marked "Stanley No. 93". An internet se...

I'm in agreement with what's been said. Wood isn't suitable to being held to plus or minus a thousandth. That being said, setting machinery to a thousandth of an inch means that if I want to work to a hundredth of an inch, I can be sure that the process is more than capable. And sometimes a few thou...

10ER and router shield

I own a 10ER and have used both the router chuck and the shield. Both the chucks and shield currently available fit the 10ER. However!!! the spindle speeds even with the variable speed accessory are too slow for really good work. I haven't tried the shaper cutters, which should be acceptable at the ...
