Good luck with that. My second Shopsmith I bought had the same problem. It is a b*@#h to get that spring back in. The first time I did it I found out that I had wrapped the spring the wrong way!!! Takes some strong hands to get the spring attached and wrapped tight enough to get it back in its holde...

Pens are great fun. Turned about 22 pens since the first of the year. Starting to get the process down. Going to turn my first acrylic pen for my wife this weekend. Recently joined the local wood turning group here in Austin so I can get more exposure to the joys of turning. Going to turn my first b...

I have the benefit of two Shopsmiths! Everybody needs two Shopsmiths! Have my 520 in tablesaw mode and my 500 for everything el...

Thanks for the comments. Swampgator had it correct when he said it was pine. It is free but I have to go through a lot of work to get usable board feet out of it. Lots of knots, voids, and warping. But I have burned up a lot of it practicing various techniques, specially with my bandsaw and Porter C...

Half finished with Tool Chest
Finished the bottom half of a tool chest a few weekends ago. Here is a few pictures. Still have the upper half to complete. All the wood has been planed, and cut close to final dimensions for the upper case. Still need to cut to final dimension, rabbet the front of the drawer, cut the half-blind dov...

I have worked in the electrical industry for about 20 years. I do not do installation but I have sold electrical products for 20 years. The bottom line is if the motor is running fine and all the other mechanical parts in the Shopsmith are moving freely it probably is NOT the Shopsmith. There are se...

Drawer bottom question?
I keep going back and forth but I need advice on sizing the drawer bottoms for my tool chest. My drawers are approximately 29" wide by 18" deep. Most of the drawers are 5-1/4" deep with a couple of them being 3-1/4" deep. (Yes I used a Porter Cable dovetail jig) Sides of the draw...
