The Grizzly chucks shown on a link from an earlier post are definitely not what you want for a wood lathe. These are expansion chucks only and will not allow you to clamp onto a large tenon, such as on a bowl blank. To compare what the differences are between the Grizzly chucks and other actual wood...

Just curious, how are you making spinning tops while turning between centers. I've always had to use some sort of chuck to hold the wood just to the headstock, without using the tailstock, so I can get a nice point on the end of the top. Turning tops between centers might be why, as you said, "...

Before Shopsmith created this forum we are now on, SSUG was one of the more popular Shopsmith websites. But since this forum came to be, less and less SS users visited the site. I'm sorry to see it go as I was a frequent user and was witness to watching its membership shrink to only a few of us dieh...

I noticed a wet-dry grinder made by Shopsmith (he sold that one separately). I didn't know Shopsmith sold those. How old is it?

Check your local Sears store. Last time I was at my local Sears (two months ago) they still had a Craftmans-brand lettering system that you use a router with sitting on a shelf. Can't remember the cost though, but I remember it wasn't too much. It was in the tool department.

Since these items are still for sell, I'm reluctant to post photos except to those who are interested in buying something. I am afraid of someone duplicating and selling what my friend designed and manufactured out of his shop. I'm sure you will understand. Now if anyone is interested in a purchase,...

Hi All, Some 6-7 yrs. ago I helped a friend of mine, who is a machinist/welder, design and build a steady rest to fit my Shopsmith. It is your basic heavy duty steady rest except for how you mount it, and that part is easy to make also (after trying a few different designs we found the simplest one ...

I like this comparison thread, but no one has mentioned upgrading with the Incra fence like I have done with one of my 510s. I have used both types of Mark V's, and they both work very well. I thought about upgrading my own to a 520, but instead wanted the capabilities of what the Incra system offer...

I have the Dunlap model, and it is completely restored with a motor and everything. I use mine to turn pens. I changed out the nuts that are used to hold the tailstock and banjo in place with knobs sold through Rockler, and they make tightening and loosening everything much easier. I have a straight...
