In the past we have used cedar shingles. They are cheap, no need to resaw. if the do need resized they split very easy. The thickness is tapered but we just overlapped two shingles to fit the size of the grill and fish anyway.

I have had the same dilemma. I have 2 mark Vs and 3 headstocks, one is not running yet but I think I can have it up and going soon. I'm not too keen on selling a headstock on eBay, packing it and shipping it, so I think I will list my extra working headstock on Craig's list and repair the other one ...

Just be warned that the SS is top heavy. Then when ya get ot home, clean it up, lube it and then do the adjustments. DO KNOT TURN the speed dial unless the motor is running.
