Re: Runaway speed

The two spring loaded detent 'thingies'(bullet nose shaped) have lost some tension with age. The 'notches' on the back of the speed dial can get their edges mashed. Are you sure the cam follower(the part with the two pins on each side) is installed correctly(it is easily reversed). Is the speed con...

Runaway speed

Ok, I FINALLY had time last night to finish the rebuild on my Mark VII powerhead (replaced all bearings, idler shaft and speed control sheave - the 6 shaped part). I started off at low speed but it immediately tried to runaway to high speed. As long as I held the speed control dial, it would maintai...

Re: Jigsaw Oil

Sorry, yes. The jigsaw that came with my Mark II. It was already sitting over top of some cardboard to catch drips from filling it so it was no big deal that it leaked a bit. Although now it seems to have saturated the gasket paper and sealed itself.

Re: Which ShopSmith model do you use in your shop

Ok, how do I upload pictures and stop getting the “exceeds 2 mb error”?

I took pictures of the cam and sheaves and I can’t get them to upload so y’all can see what I’m talking about.

Re: Jigsaw Oil

I just changed the oil and replaced the gasket in my Mark II. I just grabbed a square of the gasket cardboard from the hardware store and quart of oil. I traced the plate on the cardboard and cut it out to a little larger than the plate. Once it was all back together and oiled, it seemed to move smo...

Re: Which ShopSmith model do you use in your shop

From the google drive documents in the repairs section:
#17 is the piece that fell off and #16 (second image) that I called a pork chop or snail shell.

Re: Which ShopSmith model do you use in your shop

I might be able to get a picture later tonight. It may not be a “pork chop” but more like a snail shell.

Re: Which ShopSmith model do you use in your shop

That is a good point. I haven’t “finished” cleaning it yet so I’m not ready to start lubricating. The quill is a bit stiff and doesn’t return on its own so I still have that to figure out.

Re: Which ShopSmith model do you use in your shop

I haven’t messed with the attachments much. I didn’t see the blade guard with what he had but he saved my number in case he found anything else he thinks might go with it. It needed a good cleaning before I did anything else (pretty sure that’s why he thought it was a V instead of a VII) so I went f...
